Catherine's Yearly Festive Service of Carols Honours Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a mix of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like award-winning actors.

A Theme of Love and Generosity

The central message of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a message before the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own gradual return to public life following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the charity, with awards contributing to instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
